Istituto Marangoni Design School
Located at the intersection of rue de Lubeck and rue Boissiere in Paris 75016, the project consists of the creation of Istituto Marangoni Paris’s new campus, about 3000 m2 of classrooms, auditoriums, meeting rooms, offices…
While transforming and reformatting an old 19th century building, the project extends through an elongated architectural and urban figure, such to form a new courtyard; allowing dialogue in between the old and the new buildings. In order to respect the widths and depths of views and open spaces required by law, it will be organized in a «U» shape around a second courtyard, which will be enclosed by the existing party wall to the north.
Regarding the exterior spaces, the couryard will feature planted areas and visual connections.
It creates an imbricated figure embedded in a very Parisian Urban fabric.
The architectural staircase is projected on the garden which reunifies different levels, such to form an homogeneous campus experience.
The Marangoni team, students, professors, artists, creators will be able to explore infinite new cinematic fashion and creative immersions.
The external walkways becomem a showcase for the young designers to exhibit their work. In this way the internal courtyard become a public stage for the schools work. As for the roof, it will be divided into 3 parts: a non-accessible green roof, a succession of accessible terraces and sloping roofs.
All the architectural programs and their organization are formed to amplify all settings to create.
This project reinvents learning spaces by integrating them into an exceptional setting, between tradition and modernity, in the center of the world’s fashion capital.
Conceived as a living, breathing infrastructure, the campus stands out for its spaces for exploration and its play on transparency. More than a place of learning, it is an international showcase for fashion and the arts. The architecture of the project amplifies exchanges and creativity through all the mediums developed by the school, working with fabrics, materials, light, movement and contrasts.
The architecture of the campus transcends the constraints of the site to turn them into creative levers. The staircase, projected onto a garden, becomes a hybrid space inviting reflection and inspiration. This unique space is designed to stimulate serendipity and encourage creativity through a bold and fluid program organization.
The facade finishing approach will consist of a variety of corrugated steel panels, each feature having a unique corrugation and being in a slightly different shade of grey. Full-height glass panels with metal windows and mullions will be incorporated on all facades to allow a maximum level of natural light and ventilation in a somewhat enclosed area.
It’s architecture is robust, elegant and deeply respectful of its environment.
‘This campus is much more than a building. It’s an invitation to explore new creative frontiers and an essential contribution to the international reputation of Paris as a capital of fashion and innovation.”
