Apartment renovation
The project is located in a tree-lined 1970s building in Marseille.
The transformation of this family apartment aims to bring natural light into the center and connect the living spaces to the park.
The load-bearing structure (columns / slab) led us to develop an open-plan layout where spaces are inter- connected, eliminating the need for blind circulation areas. This spatial organization smooths the flow within the apartment and offers views of the park.
In the center, we created a «service» core. This volume houses the apartment’s technical spaces and strengthens the circular nature of the layout.
One of the key choices of the project was to introduce color through structural elements that link the spaces together and give them a distinct identity. The pink kitchen island organizes and defines the circulation between the kitchen, dining room, and living room. The dado rail in the master suite is covered in midnight blue cement tiles.
A work on the concrete threshold helps define the spaces and creates a rhythm with the use of solid oak flooring. The oak provides natural warmth and contrasts with the raw texture of the reinforced concrete. It is also used selectively in the joinery elements to harmonize the whole.
These colored elements serve as landmarks, energi- zing the entire project. Here, color is a true tool for organization and transformation.
