private apartment
Located in a 15th-century building in the historic Vieux- Lyon district, the apartment is organized around two courtyards—one of which is listed—and benefits from a privileged proximity to the Saône River.
The project aimed to enhance the visual connection with the river while also emphasizing the circular flow of the layout around the courtyards.
Two longitudinal perspectives leading towards the river structure the floor plan, themselves punctuated by transversal connections between the living spaces.
This typology has extended into the design of the woodwork elements, which trace long horizontal lines. A focus on verticality in passageways and thresholds, featuring full-height sliding doors, punctuates the horizontality of the lines, adding purity to the spaces.
The building’s heritage expression is found in the golden stone imprints revealed in the thresholds and through the highlighting of the existing pilasters. A modern reinterpretation of traditional terracotta tiles is made through cement floor tiles in the circulation areas.
Finally, certain walls feature lime plaster finishes, ins- pired by the façades of Vieux-Lyon’s historic buildings.
