Apartment renovation
Heavy restructuring of a 45m² apartment for a couple with creation a dedicated work space in the reclaimed attic. Creation of 7m² of floor area, roof and wall insulation, redevelopment, decoration and custom furniture.
Apartment in a condominium, located on the top floor of a building built in the beginning of the 20th century in Vincennes (94)
The main purpose was to recover the volume of the attic located above the apartment. Once we insulated the attic, the height under the ridge did not allow one to stand up, but the ceiling height on the lower floor was quite high (2m70). The idea was to lower the attic floor on the central part (the highest) in order to have enough height on the future mezzanine to stand up and thus create 7 m² of additional floor space.
On the lower level, under the part of the floor lowered to 2.30m, stands an open kitchen and the bedroom's dressing room. The rest of the bedroom keeps its ceiling height (2m70). Upstairs, the 40cm offset allows us to create a bench/seat and hidden storage under the roof.
On the living room side, the ceiling is completely removed. Thus, from the mezzanine, we have a bird’s eye view on the stay. The creation of two roof windows increases the brightness and allows you to enjoy the view of the sky. The desk, large cantilevered top, also serves as a guardrail
The palette of materials and colors are deliberately limited. The choice focused on natural oak and khaki green found in each of the pieces in different proportions. Entrance and kitchen are voluntary
dark to, among other things, hide doors and cupboards and accentuate the contrast with the very open and bright living room. The tinted mirror splashback disturbs perception and even reflects the windows of the living room. The kitchen closets are in natural oak as well as the access door to the hidden room. the hand grips and handles are in oak as well.
On the bedroom side (installed in the former kitchen), the proportions are reversed, we just guess the green of the ceramic stoneware tiles in the bathroom which the pivot door blends in with the dressing room doors. In the open position, the door hides the washing machine and aligns perfectly with the dressing room: the bathroom is then open to the bedroom. In the closed position, the occupants have a large cupboard above the washing machine and privacy is preserved.
In the bathroom it is always a question of duality with a touch of varnished oak floor while walls and floors (shower) are in green 5x5 tiles (winckelmans).
As an extension of the shower, we find the bathtub under a large window: like a painting that opens onto the open landscape.
