House Hafner
The single-family home is located in the heart of the South Tyrolean wine region, amidst a centuries-old cultural landscape characterized by long, terraced vineyards with natural stone walls.
The new residential house adopts the horizontal structure of the surrounding vineyard landscape. The house's typology reflects this characteristic and integrates itself as part of the landscape. The roof emphasizes the horizontal gesture while providing protection against the summer heat. The differently oriented exterior walls create intimate, shaded terrace situations and offer various views in all directions. The exterior space seamlessly extends inward. The free form of the roof gives the building lightness and a poetic quality, making it appear as though the building adapts to the surrounding trees.
The philosophy of the house is also reflected in the interior design. Wall panels made of wood and furniture designed as space-defining elements in simple forms characterize the interior.
The new building has two floors. The lower floor contains storage spaces, cellar rooms, a heating room, and a laundry room.
On the ground floor, there is a 140m² apartment, accessed through a covered entrance area. It consists of a kitchen, a living room, two bedrooms, a bathroom, a guest restroom, and a wardrobe. To the east and south, terraces extend the living area and offer a stunning view over the South Tyrolean Überetsch region and the Dolomites.
The materials used for the building have been carefully chosen to harmonize with its surroundings. The exterior walls are made of sandblasted concrete with local aggregate, giving them a light beige tone that blends gently into the cultural landscape. The same applies to the forecourt, which is made of a concrete slab with local aggregate, with its surface washed out. The roof is built in a modern timber construction, drawing on the building tradition of South Tyrol. Furniture and wooden floors are made of oak, while all metal elements, such as windows, the garage door, door handles, and bathroom fittings, are crafted in stainless steel or aluminum. The selection of materials and colors was intentionally reduced to a few essential elements.
