Brennwerk Wesenberg
Extension of the Wesenberg combustion plant
New community for rural areas
brennwerk is a young cooperative that bought the former distillery in Wesenberg at the end of 2021 to create a new place for living, working and culture. Connected to the region, enthusiastic about its potential and open to diversity, the number of co-creators continues to grow. It all began in 2017 with a bachelor's thesis.
The primary goal of brenn:werk eG is to save the former distillery and to promote and create living and working spaces. The land and premises are to remain permanently in the ownership of the cooperative in order to protect them from speculation on the capital market. Ecological and sustainable points of view, as well as equal participation, have a high priority in the co-operative. The members decide together on organisational and design issues. Community activities and voluntary work as well as diversity and the acceptance of plurality are important pillars of the cooperative.
Projects that connect and revitalise the city and brenn:werk eG are to be realised through shared open spaces. The fundamental openness towards other approaches should always be maintained, thinking and actions should be scrutinised and something new should be dared.
Over the next few years, a diverse environment is to be created together in order to promote cooperation and coexistence between people from all generations, with different cultural backgrounds, in different circumstances and with diverse skills.
The aim is to offer a variety of living and working spaces for the self-employed, creatives, artists, craftspeople and other active people or organisations.
In the communally used open space, projects are to be realised with a view to living together in the city, of which brenn:werk eG sees itself as a part. An innovative organic brewery, including equipment sales, will move to the brenn:werk site and a directly connected beer garden will be created. Co-working and seminar rooms, workshops and artists' studios are planned. Outside the distillery, space will be provided for small businesses and open spaces will be created for experimentation.
In this way, the area is to become a place of art and crafts, cultural exchange and diverse social projects, which is open to the members of the cooperative as well as the citizens of Wesenberg and anyone who wants to get involved and participate in this project.
