THE LAKE’S ODYSSEY. Festival des cabanes 2024
We are at the edge of the forest, where the trees rise proudly vertically, and along wood storage where the human hand has laid them horizontally. The hut finds its place in the heart of this multiple landscape that opens in the distance on Lake Annecy. Fruit of nature and the work of humans, the hut works to maintain the dialogue between these two forces.
From the path appears a burning wooden monolith. The materiality of this simple and slender form refers to the darkness of the undergrowth and the dark trunks stored nearby. Then, as it approaches, the volume reveals a breach. The opening, on a human scale, offers a framing of the large landscape.
The brightness of this light wooden window contrasts with the burnt wood of the periphery. This fault, raised from the ground, crosses the volume. It takes the form of an architectural archetype with, in the upper part, two steeply inclined sides. This window is the hut. A hut that is read by its luminous carved interiority that contrasts with its dark envelope in burnt wood. A void filled with lights, colors, sounds, smells and the perpetual movement of the landscape.
A void that vibrates at the same pace as its environment. Perched a meter high from the path, this space between inside and outside invites to a moment of contemplation in weightlessness.
Once mounted the few bars of the ladder and reached a first level, the ground of the hut lowers thanks to a gentle slope. According to the will of everyone, standing, lying, sitting, walking or sliding, alone or with others, the odyssey of the lake is a place of appeasement that can initiate the game.
Under the prism of Kubrick’s monolith and his mysterious aura, the lake odyssey announces a passage. A transition begins between the path where the eye butts on the brownish bark of the trunks and the opening on the panorama of the lake. Where the film crosses millennia, here in Giez, the story of being made human is read through the landscape. From the warm wood hut at the heart of the burnt wood monolith, everyone will find a break to think about the feeling that this transition evokes.
