Timber house
The building presented here is the result of a clearly structured floor plan concept that was thought through in collaboration with the clients, creating plenty of space for generous living areas and creating a harmonious connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The building site is a quiet plot between old farms on the outskirts of Holzkirchen in Upper Bavaria. The residential building is an elongated structure that stretches along the edge of the plot and opens up to the outside through a covered open space to the south. A skin of untreated local larch was chosen for the building envelope. This is pulled over the façade openings in places to create differentiated areas and also provide privacy.
The horizontal substructure of the battens was concealed with small ornamental sacrificial boards in order to visually continue the vertical moulding. The façade thus picks up on the traditional local craftsmanship and creates a harmonious connection to the surrounding landscape. The integration of traditional elements and sustainable materials gives the building a timeless appearance. The floor plan concept is based on the placement of the entrance, ancillary rooms and access along a compact spatial brace in the west, allowing the spacious living spaces such as the kitchen, dining area and living room to be arranged as a spatial continuum in the east. An outstanding feature of the building is the use of solid spruce wood as the defining building material, which lends the interior a warm and inviting atmosphere. The construction of the building above ground level consists exclusively of ceilings and wall elements made of glueless, solid wood. The prefabricated components resulted in simple construction site logistics and a significantly shorter construction time. Plastics and foils were largely dispensed with.
