OFFICE BUILDING
The project proposes the energy rehabilitation and adaptation to new uses of a building built in the 40s of the last century as a “Workers' Residence and Agrarian School.” It is, therefore, a property with more than 70 years of useful life, and that is not adapted to the requirements of 21st century architecture.
The main guidelines that have guided the intervention proposal are described below:
PASSIVE MEASURES: BUILDING ENVELOPE. With the aim of improving the passive behavior of the building, an Exterior Thermal Insulation System (SATE) will be applied to the entire building, and will be complemented with the incorporation of a system of ceramic lattices, which will filter direct sunlight, and They will generate access spaces to the building. These lattices, which are very present in traditional Extremaduran architecture, are configured as a tailored suit for the building, combining their function, that of grading the light, with that of exposing a new exterior image of the property.
FACILITIES: A flat roof is enabled for the arrangement of air conditioning equipment, and to be able to install photovoltaic panels, which make the building self-sufficient in terms of energy generation. All the building's facilities are renovated with the aim of making them sustainable.
FUNCTIONAL PROGRAM: The project will propose a new functional program, with new spaces for the workers of the Scientific Research Center of Extremadura. Open work areas (landscape office) and offices are adapted, according to the center's organizational chart, in addition to enabling an assembly hall and an area for exhibitions and networking.
THE ENVIRONMENT: The intervention also proposes a treatment for the surroundings of the building, which is configured as a meeting place for workers from the different buildings on the CICYTEX campus, incorporating vegetation and new shaded areas.
Although the objective of the property is the energy rehabilitation of the building, it is proposed to overcome these requirements, in such a way that it achieves a transformation of the property, evolving into an architecture adapted to the 21st century.
