Rua de Bitarães
The refurbishment and extension project of the single-family house, located in the António Aroso neighborhood in Porto, sought to adapt and interpret the existing original design.
The house is located in the residential complex of the “Bairro de Casas Económicas de António Aroso/Bairro de António Aroso”. The complex has a regular layout with a contemporary approach to each unity. Having been established as a state public promotion, the neighborhood is made up of a set of two-storey semi-detached and townhouses and a hierarchical system of streets and public space. Each lot consists of an outdoor area with access to the house from the front or side elevation, and another outdoor patio area at the back of the building. The building is characterized by openings highlighted by protruding moldings, traditional roofs made of ceramic tiles, facade cladding differentiated in terms of coating and color and by a granite paneling in relation to the raised foundation slab.
The proposed design sought to clearly define the existing elements in dialogue with the new ones, of the extension at East. The color, as well as the remaining metallic elements, create a custom appearance that aims to be cohesive.
The distribution of spaces separates the social and the sleeping area on two different levels, with the entire lower floor being reconfigured in order to create the desired relationships: with the garden space at the back and with the street.
