FONTAINE AU ROI
In-depth restructuring of an apartment whose main problem was the lack of light, nestled in a courtyard typical of an old industrial building in the Parisian faubourgs of the 10th arrondissement.
The floor plan was completely redesigned to create an open-plan kitchen, a T-shaped living room delimiting a social space for dining, and a living room on the courtyard side, a bedroom for a newborn child to the east and a master bedroom on the other side close off the rectangular floor plan. A thick bookcase in the living room, opened by a large translucent wall, preserves the apartment's open aspect, and becomes a headboard on the bedroom side. The glazing allows for reflections and movement of light according to the sun and interior lighting: reflecting the brick building opposite, plants and shadows throughout the day.
The kitchen, conceived as the nerve center of the apartment, is organised into three autonomous modules: cooking, water and a third in the center for gathering. Built in light-coloured concrete and clad with oak doors, these modules are illuminated by beam-like lighting fixtures designed by ceramist JMP.
The bathroom is entirely covered in light butter-coloured earthenware and opens onto a small, quiet patio. Three wooden volumes house the bathtub, washing machine and washbasin.
