Casa es
The es house project began from the first meeting with the clients, with whom an affinity was immediately established that, by the time it was completed, had become friendly trust, the first resource available for its success.
The principals fell in love with the wide spaces and open view of the Mediterranean of a house with garden from the early 1960s, built as part of one of the first post-war allotments in Bordighera, in a context, Conca d'Africa, whose toponym makes explicit the nature and climatic fortune of the place.
The first project of renovation and energy upgrading of the building is added to that of the outdoor spaces, with the swimming pool inserted in a strip of the garden with the request not to be shown, to preserve the centuries-old essences of the Mediterranean maquis present in the most exposed and panoramic part.
For the house, the choices follow the same spirit of respectful renovation, preserving simple spaces that will not be filled with objects, using natural materials, consistent with the modernist language with which they are confronted.
The elongated solid bricks used in the facade for the "basement" on the second floor effectively solve the need to find an alternative cladding to the pre-existing gray stone, actively contributing to the new stratigraphy of the wall.
Simple and flexible stitching elements, we find solid bricks on the exterior pathways, in the new brise soleil and on the deck on the roof, used for the parallelepiped of the chimney that is not hidden, but becomes a compositional element, a signal and a panoramic seat supporting the wooden pergola.
The choice of natural sustainability is found in the materials used for the envelope, a wood fiber coat system, a material that is also found in the insulation of the roof deck turned into a panoramic deck; in the window and door frames and interior spaces, finished in clay with a neutral colouring used uniformly and enveloping all spaces.
There is a red thread in this project, the human dimension of a simple language that speaks of land and sea, which starts from the plain to discover the light of the Mediterranean.
