KÖNIG FRANZ
Placed upon a simple base volume, and featuring apartment units embellished with deck-like balconies, the eleven rooftop houses define the ensemble's distinctive silhouette. The building is situated in the very heart of the city and, at the same time, within a tranquil green courtyard. The apartments boast floor-to-ceiling glazing and sliding doors, creating a harmonious connection to the surrounding nature. Despite its substantial volume, due to its dark colour scheme, the new housing units exudes a sense of understated presence, as if it has always been there as a part of that old courtyard.
The design concept for the outdoor spaces recreates the original spirit of the site as a small agricultural courtyard within the urban context. Remnants of this idea manifest through garden areas distinctively enclosed by privet hedges and hornbeam trees. The integration of new architectural elements as modern additions, framed by hedges, indorses this legacy. The result is a dynamic sequence of outdoor spaces intertwined with existing vegetation and encompassing private gardens, fruit trees, planting beds, and a playground, all interconnected by a meandering pathway.
