The idea which underpinned our proposal is as follows: to offer the impression of a lively and innovative building, going beyond the surroundings, showcasing the cliff as a preamble to the world of prehistory. And more confidentially, offering the impression of a building which we circle like the river traversing the plot. The site is delicate, almost private. The project is not about shaking it up, but merely inhabiting it. To do this, we allow the new building to be discovered gradually after the site is perceived and recognised. The site is key here, due to its strength and character. Our building only comes into its own in the second stage, in this case after a path showcasing the cliff. The building seeks to tackle the slope and drop which characterises the plot. It also aims to reflect the site’s unique features: a woody plot located at the edge of the Beune River, with a canal and significant aquatic vegetation. Our building seems to emerge from the folds and peaks of the ground.
