Ainay apartment
This apartment, located in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, enjoys a privileged position within a typical building of the peninsula. Between the courtyard and the street, it benefits from a dual exposure, with southwest-facing bays for direct light and diffuse light from the north. Its unique configuration, marked by a generous ceiling height and a significant number of openings, guided its redevelopment to create spaces that are both intimate and comfortable.
The architectural intervention aimed to respect the existing character while infusing a contemporary aesthetic. The solution of the "box within the box," integrating a bathroom, a bedroom, and a built-in kitchen, was adopted to preserve the clarity of the spaces and promote smooth circulation, without intrusive doors.
Spatial constraints dictated some adaptations: the impossibility of creating two real bedrooms led to their alternately being arranged in a second day or in alcove. Furthermore, wooden elements such as shelves, interior shutters, desks, and bathroom furniture were harmonized to match the kitchen volume.
The main objective of this renovation was to bring comfort to an apartment that had once housed an old printing machine factory. The choice of colors, subtly combining wood, white, and bitumen, was deliberate to create a harmonious and contemporary atmosphere.
The continuity of volumetry and materiality, with wooden elements with curved edges and uniform floor coverings, as well as the uniformity of white and bitumen tones on walls and ceilings, establishes a dialogue between the old and the contemporary. It is in this contrast and in the enhancement of light effects that the project finds its true expression, exploring the finesse of details to create a space that is both functional and aesthetically refined.
