Civic center
The project consists of the rehabilitation and extension of a former train station into a third place bringing together a nursery, a music school, offices and a co-working space.
Located in the heart of the village, the project takes place in a protected area for the development of architecture and heritage (AVAP). At the rear of the building, we find the old railway line converted into a greenway. The existing building and its extensions lean against this promenade, highlighting the old masonry station in the center and the wooden extensions on either side. The new landscaped forecourt consolidates everything, linking the city center and the greenway.
Inside the building, we find this tripartite composition. The old station, in the center, brings together the common spaces and then distributes the different activities distributed in the extensions. This provision takes on its full meaning in such a program, which must evolve with the needs of users. Only the west wing of the ground floor intended to accommodate the music school benefits from special acoustic treatment based on the “box within the box” principle.
This adaptability of the building is also reflected in its structure. The masonry ground floor has a wooden post-beam structure. We find this structure on the facades punctuated by the frame. With this writing, the project is easily adaptable to future needs.
Regarding the materials, the project is part of an eco-responsible approach by using mainly biosourced materials through a wooden frame structure and walls. Wood is also found in wood wool insulation, raw wood cladding and joinery, but also in interior coverings and joinery furniture.
