HOUSE T
Inside house T, watching your children grow is one of the most precious times. The architecture itself becomes an empty stage, ready to embrace the incredible adventures of growing children. Allowing oneself the time and space to appreciate every moment of the day with them is priceless. House T seeks to value every nook and cranny of the space to enjoy every second with the most beloved ones. It is a light and permeable house, which allows natural light to enter from all possible directions, so, every moment of the day is an absolute enjoyment that mixes family, activities, and the moving light of each day. The architecture’s permeability allows for the inhabitants to be together, but independently, without getting in the way. The spaces are wide, not many walls, and each space has an internal connection with the others and a private space to the outside. This way, the family can enjoy each other without being crowded. It is an honest and functional house, with natural materials and white canvases that emphasize the activities of life, no ornaments included.
Due to the lack of open-air spaces on the ground floor, we decided to switch the public areas of the house to the first floor and cover the parking space with a wide wooden deck structure that allows for a big terrace to open up from the kitchen and dining room. All service areas, office, and grandma’s room stay on the ground floor, so the actual living areas start on the first floor connecting with a second floor reserved for the children and the family room through a double-height ceiling. Each level has its own open-air patio, that allows for contemplation of the beautiful trees that surround the house.
In terms of materiality, we decided to keep four main materials, perforated brick facades painted with lime that allow for sun to bathe the terraces in the morning, volcanic stone flooring in the exterior spaces, and wooden floors for the interior spaces.
