H151 apartment house
The five-apartment apartment building is located in a green area of Budapest on a sloping plot surrounded by old trees. Respecting this natural setting it was built without cutting a single tree. It aims to combine the elegance, materiality, and personality of the local villas from the turn of the century with the functionality and modernity of the small-scale quality condominium architecture in a compact building. The result is a simple, archetypal, compact mass broken by the corner terraces, the asymmetrically placed pitched roof and the rounded railings of the roof terrace.
The lower two floors, which contain four apartments with covered terraces, merge into the earth with their brownish clinker cladding and monolithicity. This clinker layer does not imitate a built wall, but due to the standing brick bond, it turns around the corner and gives an unusual shingle-like appearance. The simple form hides a variable floor plan respondig to the challenges of home officing and changing family life. The penthouse apartment on the roof level, reaching towards the sky with unique large scale skylights, has a light wood and glass facade with metal roofing.
The whole building tries to blend into nature with its colours and natural materials. The residents can feel themselves among the trees while keeping their intimate environment.
The project was awarded Budapest Architecture Excellence Award Special Mention in 2023.
