El paseo gastronómico
After the earthquake of April 16th, Calceta is looking to rebuild and boost its economy. This is why the food court project must respond to two fundamental needs to address the current vulnerability of its merchants: propose a pragmatic, safe, and quick construction and formulate an architectural and landscaping quality project that generates value and commercial, touristic, and urban appeal. This is the reflection that our proposal for the Gastronomic Promenade generates: a new commercial and landscaping landmark for the city of Calceta, its inhabitants, and its visitors.
Location
The project site has undoubtedly a strategic location within Calceta. Firstly, its proximity to the active and economic center, both day and night, gives it the potential for traffic and attractiveness. Secondly, its ecological potential within the center of Calceta gives it the capacity to articulate the landscapes generated by the Carrizal and Mosca rivers. The project emphasizes these potentials by creating a true contemporary identity for a food court and creating a fresh park in the center of the city.
Implantation
The food court generates a boulevard and a versatile and multi-purpose entrance plaza, through a setback on 10 de Agosto Street. This allows the buildings of the project to align with the fire station and create an urban breathing space in relation to the existing trees on the adjacent plot. On Bolivar street, the fresh park program with children's playground creates a neighborhood relationship with nearby residents.
Distribution
The two buildings of the project are implanted diagonally on the plot, in order to create two distinct public spaces. A central walkway allows for the connection, distribution, and discovery of the different spaces. Inside, each building has 10 kitchens, an area for diners around a real central courtyard with plants, and easily accessible restroom facilities. The arrangement through the central courtyard of each building allows for the dissociation of dining spaces, restroom facilities, and garbage disposal areas, while maintaining functional proximity.
Environmental Aspects
The natural ventilation of diners is achieved through the arrangement of a double roof inspired by pre-Columbian traditional construction. This compression of space between the two roofs accelerates airflow and ventilation. Similarly, natural ventilation is provided for preparation areas with a raised roof that allows air to pass through each kitchen. Roof overhangs also create shaded areas. Vegetation plays an essential role in the project for the creation of islands of freshness and insulation against the noise from the main avenue.
