Crestet-Centre d'Art
This is the house of the artist couple Claude and François Stahly. After Claude's death in 1973, François tried to continue running the house as a collective studio. In 1983, the house was acquired by the Centre national des arts plastiques and operated as a Crestet-centre d'art. In 2023, the house was sold to a private individual.
The former "Crestet-Centre d'art" was built in 1966 by the architect Bruno Stalhy. It's situated in the hills above Vaison-la-Romaine, in the middle of a mediterranean forest. The building is registered in the Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques and was owned by the French Ministry of Culture (CNAP) from 1983 until 2023. There are many different, not congruent, stories about the house. One of them is that Bruno Stahly was merely the engineer and his father the designer.
