GEZA 4.0
The project of the new studio for GEZA Architettura stems from the reinterpretation of an existing industrial building, characterized internally by the coexistence of a workshop and the owner's residence. Thus, an opportunity for reuse emerges, committed to the recovery of a highly valuable industrial architecture which encapsulates the narrative of a construction and working style that has defined much of the post-war Italian small industry and continues to be portrayed by many productive activities in the surrounding geographical area.
In this context, a contemporary architectural language merges with the appreciation of the existing, giving rise to an intervention of structural and energy redevelopment that expands the building in volumetric terms while simultaneously paying homage to the history of 1950s prefabrication.
The intervention unfolds over five levels, providing significant volumetric articulation to the space. The basement area fully explores its potential allowing the insertion of a steel mezzanine. This increases the usable and walkable surfaces, juxtaposing workspaces and a meeting center for guests and events.
In the warehouse perpendicular to the street, the pitched-roof wing is functionally reorganized, placing technical areas on two levels at the ends of a bright open space, the operational hub of the entire office. Common areas are counterbalanced by reserved spaces with high acoustic comfort, designed specifically for meetings.
A new extension body, characterized by exposed concrete finishing, is added to the building, shaping the courtyard. Featuring two fully glazed opposite walls, when open, it seamlessly blends internal and external spaces, creating a continuous and harmonious experience. These qualities prevent the courtyard from being overcrowded, transforming it into a peaceful and human-scale environment that enhances not only the view from inside to outside (and vice versa) but also improves the quality of the workplace.
The studio thus becomes a fluid space, capable of adapting to the needs of architects and guests, accommodating them with grace and functionality. The well-being and comfort of those who work or visit serve as the guiding star for all architectural choices defining the aesthetic, functional, and structural characteristics of the building.
GEZA 4.0 serves as a manifesto for the philosophy that has always marked the studio's projects, where architecture becomes a significant opportunity to invest in improving the quality of life, from basic needs to more abstract conditions, seeking simultaneously an "infinite without time."
