Blue Circle
Located in the green Municipal Park of Antuã in Estarreja, Portugal, “Blue Circle", by Diogo Aguiar Studio, is a monument-pavilion, built from the re-interpretation of the traditional Portuguese chair designed and produced by ADICO since 1920s. The artistic and spatial intervention works the dematerialization of the well-known chair by its repetition, from 40 units geometrically positioned, simultaneously constituting itself as the drawing of a circular void, but also as the material formalization of a space occupied by structures that invite for the exploration of the park. The artwork assumes itself as a place of contemplation, solitary or collective, but also of conviviality, designed as a space-assembly where the sharing of stories, a concert or a performance can be done in the intimacy of a protected circle. Anticipating the seasonal flooding of the place, the permanent intervention in the park was conceived in stainless steel up to 2 meters high, the quota from which the iron chairs are overlapped by fitting. Painted in Klein blue, the chairs thus take on a prominent place, due to their elevation in the territory, while allowing for a privileged view of the surrounding landscape. The celebration of 100 years of the local company ADICO was thus signalled with the creation of a public artwork, which is also a new public space in the city of Estarreja.
