We are in one of the most elegant areas in Milan and the object of the intervention is an apartment located in a prestigious building from the late 19th century.
Previously used as an o!ce, the apartment has retained some of its original features such as doors, fireplace and plaster decorations, enhanced and restored in the project.
A hard-to-recover marmette floor was replaced by a new uniform surface with solid oak planks. The passages between the multiple rooms are marked along the load-bearing wall by natural brass plates. The light and ‘reassuring’ textures of the main rooms are juxtaposed with elements adopting a lexicon of di#erent eras: the brick-red polyester lacquered wall, the textile coverings of the wardrobes and bedrooms, the sanitary fixtures in glossy and colored ceramic.
Some spaces have been designed as small architectures inside very large interiors: the access to one of the bathrooms is marked by a corridor with a barrel vault communicating with the shower area through a porthole. A double archway, with a burnished brass frame, connects the two entrances to the bathroom and to the shower giving to the room an actual inner facade.
The master bedroom stands out from all the other rooms thanks to its geometry. A distinctive sign is the rectangular plan with rounded corners and a polygonal vaulted ceiling.
Along the corridor a decorative cladding edged in natural brass hides wardrobes, service areas, accesses to the most intimate rooms of the house.
The bespoke furnishing have been conceived and designed with care and studied down to the last detail. The kitchen island is entirely clad in calacatta marble: the slabs were carefully chosen and juxtaposed in order to guarantee the continuity of the vein and recreate the appearance of a unitary block.
