A New Tower for Saronno
In the urban centre of Saronno, in a residential area near the railway station, formerly occupied by a former factory in an advanced state of decay, the first building in Torre di Saronno, in the province of Varese, is being constructed, and its layout is particularly linked to the private surface available that will be used as a little private green-area.
The entirely enclosed garden will give a landscaped and natural aspect that will fit harmonically into the surrounding context already endowed with public and private park rich in different types of trees and vegetation with valuable species, it will also guarantee a strong outdoor interest and indoor privacy through the choice of plant species capable of enhancing the complex aesthetically during the 4 seasons of the year.
The garden, developed on four sides in relation to the centrally placed building, surrounds the Tower with trees and plants of various heights and is interwoven with pathways and cycleways.
Where possible, the use of natural materials and elements will confer a diffuse aesthetic quality in dialogue with the new architectural organism, which is also "dotted" by a roof garden specifically designed on the large terraces. The garden is designed to look like a small grove overlooked by the characteristic terraces that visually lead to the top of the building.
The large and protected spacious terraces, both to the south and north, will be set up as roof gardens at the disposal of the individual residential units and will bring benefits in relation to microclimate and real protection from fine dust.
The building in the centre of the site is typologically inspired by a Greek cross plan.
This brings advantages from a distribution point of view compared to planimetric solutions particularly suited to the client's requirements.
The structural grid adopted also allows for a perfect correspondence with the basement floors of the garages and the staircase/lift shaft, guaranteeing an optimal use of all the space above and below ground without waste.
In order to give the Tower a lean appearance, it was decided to shift the two main bodies in relation to the core of the vertical connections to emphasise the maximum height (about 42 metres).
Pairs of load-bearing walls will support the terraces, which will play an important visual role in the overall architectural composition.
The Tower will also be "elevated" by two storeys on pilotis with respect to the height of the garden, allowing an excellent articulation of the spaces, under the footprint, in harmony with the system of greenery that runs through it.
From the double-height main entrance there is a large hall, reception/gatehouse and a bicycle room on the right with direct access from the outside, while on the left there is a multi-purpose room for residents' use directly facing the park with large, bright windows.
A careful study of the chromatic tones and materials to be applied to the exterior surfaces of the Tower will provide the maximum aesthetic effect with respect to the form adopted, which is already rich in volumetric and light and shade movements specifically created to enhance the choice of proposing a new contemporary and environmentally friendly typology for living in the City of Saronno.
