TRANSFORMATION TO A SERVICE CENTER
By transforming an underused storage area, a new service center is being created in the basement of the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape in Hanover. In an area of 220 qm, students have access to a model-making workshop, a plotting service, a 3D printer and a laser cutter. In the open entrance area, there is a reception counter for the plot service and tables for preparing, cutting or working. The former hallway is the new core area of the workshop space. It is framed by a long standing counter on one side of the wall and three permeable rooms on the other side. Open grid walls zone the open space and create visual references. Small murals (artist Simon Schirmer) describe the uses of the different areas in an abstract way. The warm color of the maritime pine wood and the fresh white walls give the new service area in the basement a pleasant and calm quality of stay.
