CASA 7.30
The house is located on a property with a frontage of 7 meters and a depth of 30 meters, in an area of mixed residential and industrial uses, located near the center of Zapopan. It’s simple and rectangular shape aims to discreetly integrate into the profile of the existing houses along the street and the entire neighborhood in general.
The clients are a young family - a couple with a daughter - with plans to grow, and a very peculiar architectural program in which the time variable plays a leading role in the project. Its spaces had to be designed flexible enough to allow it to change its use in the future from a single-family home to four collective rental units.
The public areas are located on the ground floor: music room, living room, dining room, and kitchen. These are distributed along the property between a succession of patios that make up a thermodynamic system where, through large aeration and extraction openings, they passively guarantee interior thermal comfort. The upper floors are accessed through a staircase located longitudinally at the center of the plot, dividing the house into two volumes. The secondary bedrooms and a study are located in the front part, and the master bedroom is located in the rear part. The bridge of the staircase that connects both sides can be modified through panels that fold down towards the central courtyard, depending on the desired level of luminosity and ventilation, or privacy and intimacy. The house can transform and evolve from a completely closed volume to a very open and permeable structure. On the third level, there are utility areas and a terrace enclosed by clay pots and plants, with views of the neighborhood's skyline.
For the construction of the house, a common material was chosen: hollow prefabricated cement blocks, produced by the local industry. The electrical, hydraulic and sanitary installations, as well as the rainwater collection system, are hidden within the alveolar brick of the walls. The continuity of the materiality in the interiors and exteriors blurs that classic border of spaces and uses, and proposes a continuous journey between textures, patios, shadows, wind and vegetation.
