SOCIAL HOUSING, NIDEA
This residential complex, called Nidea, is located in a new neighbourhood under development in the north-east side of Nantes city. The project occupies a singular site inhabited by lush vegetation, bordered by a hundred-year-old oak hedge and a future pedestrian path.
The constructions are established parallel to the hedge of trees and to the street, which are the structuring axes of the site. The program is split in three distinct entities: terraced houses in the foreground, collective dwellings into the background, divided in two parts by a fault including all levels of distribution.
The partition into a succession of staggered volumes creates a gradual reading from the street, a smooth insertion into the site and the inclusion of the prevailing vegetation: most of the existing trees are preserved. The project is characterized by double pitched roof of varying heights, generous outside shared and private spaces and crossing dwellings.
The pre-constructive system was chosen to bring a responsive intervention respecting the trees. A concrete glaze was applied to guarantee homogeneity and durability of the facades. The wooden windows highlight the choice of large openings, directing the look from the interior towards the wooded landscape.
