CASA MO
House MO is located west Mexico city in a rectangular shaped site that measures 12 X 25 meters. The house lives inwards so from the outside it doesn´t reveal its functions. It is a “blind” cube that shows that it is a house only because it has a door. It is a three story construction and every level has views towards an inner patio. All levels are communicated by a triple height space that has a ramp and stairways altogether. Because of its linear shaped openings, holes and slots, light plays a very important role since the visitor can experience its constant changing appearance.
The program of the house doesn’t matter. Any program of any house doesn´t matter. ¿How beautiful can a master bedroom be? ¿What kind of dining room do I need to see in order to feel seduced? With that in mind I designed this house. I thought of that “other” space that no one asked for as a key concept of my work. The space that usually is the most interesting space in any architectural work: the one that no one asked for, the one the architect invents. In this case, that space is a triple height long and narrow space that works as a vestibule or distributor of spaces. A space that connects all rooms in the house and can be seen from any part of it. A space that captures time with light. In it there is a ramp that visually distorts perspective: the ramp starts with a little more than one meter of width and ends in a little less than 50 centimeters and is 12 meters long. The caption of space as you walk through it is different than the usual: you change heights walking through them. I can talk about how cute or cool all other spaces are, but as an architect, the least I can deliver, is a greatly planned distribution of spaces. So believe me. They are.
