Kindergarten Multipurpose Room
After years in which this space was being left and unused, the project for a multipurpose room creates a whole where colours, materials and textures have been chosen having children’s wellness as main purpose.
This new space is located inside an existent kindergarten, whose construction was completed in 2015, and inside a great public park that surrounds the entire building. The strong presence of the exterior nature guided the concept for the multipurpose room.
The main challenges involving this project were two and regarded both the interior and the exterior spaces.
The first one was about the interior space. Here, the idea was to create an area where children can always have a direct visual contact with the nature of the surrounding park and at the same time perceiving it inside the room. This concept led to choose materials that, by sight and smell, resembles natural woods. Simultaneously, since this is a multipurpose room and its activities can rapidly change, these materials were chosen in order to create a warm and welcoming space even when the space is empty and without any furniture.
The second one regarded the exterior space. This project occupies an area of an existing architecture. Considering that this building is relatively new, the first doubts were about how to approach with the existing architecture. After some studies, the design opted for a façade that resembles the actual exterior. Since this space has its own entry, the idea to recreate a partial inclined façade, as the main entrance as the one for the kindergarten, was maintained. The material and colour chosen for the windows are the same as the existent ones. These choices were taken in order to create a façade that tries not to prevail or diminish the existent architecture.
