VILLA - NEW CONSTRUCTION IN SASSENAGE
The plan is an “L” shape around the marvelous bicentenary cedar of Japan. It establish a 3-dimensional dialogue with it. This plan puts the old stone building at a distance and produces unique spaces, varying the levels of intimacy and multiplying the uses. It marks the entrance, creates a shaded patio in contact with the perimeter wall and opens onto the park to take advantage of this privileged landscape.
The building is made of two entities, a massive base on the ground floor on which pivots an element that forms a bridge and shelter the parking lots and the covered entrance.
The materiality can be read on the facades of the project, it echoes the surrounding landscape. The ground floor made of shuttered concrete create a dialogue with the perimeter wall and the stone building. It reinterpret the mass in a contemporary way by providing points of contact between these two materials.
The upper volume in burnt wood arises in lightness and creates a suspended element. Evoking the park and its shady woods, the volume is cantilevered and amplifies the impression of lightness.
From the street, the upper volume stands out. The contrast with the surrounding wall marks the meeting between the old and the contemporary.
A vertical pattern can be read on the facade between the shuttered concrete and the cladding positioned vertically. This composition highlights the materials and breaks the linearity of the project.
The internal organization is based on a division between floors. The living spaces are positioned on the ground floor and open onto the garden and the terrace while the bedrooms are installed in the wooden volume.
The thermic study and a fine approach to the shadows cast by the trees in the park made it possible to multiply the glazed surfaces on the ground floor without the need for solar protection. This makes it possible to create a bioclimatic atmosphere in its primitive sense: omnipresent natural light and ventilation for each space.
The architectural prospect of the project was to form a fluid space between interior and exterior in order to highlight the park and its landscape.
