GREEN OAK / Office building
Located in Arcueil, in south of Great Paris, Green Oak is a new mix concrete-wood building, developed in a new neighborhood, "Vache Noire" ZAC.
This 10,000 sqm R+8 project introduces wood into the design of a dense and high (35 m) office building. The project, launched in 2016 and completed in 2021, is one of the first high-rise wooden office projects: at the time there was little or no feedback. It has been an exciting challenge!
This four-handed work by Mootz+Pelé and Calq was a true partnership throughout the design and execution phases.
The main issue, both from a structural and architectural point of view, was that of creating sustainable facades above 28 m on a dense building. From the beginning of the studies, we wanted to work not with a glazed curtain wall but with a rhythmic façade, between frames and solids, with a glass paste covering. The design was therefore oriented towards a mixed system: concrete allowing for column-free floors with optimised floor spacing based on load-bearing wooden facades.
The project required a high level of technical expertise in both design and execution to create these load-bearing façades and their alternative cladding in glass paste. We set up a rapid technical evaluation procedure (ATEx), to respond to the innovation displayed and to seek out the complementarity of materials in an iterative process with all the actors in the project.
The implementation of the façade cladding was therefore particularly careful, with precise and elaborate layout. This work was carried out in close consultation with the company, which was very committed to the successful completion of the project, offering a quality result while respecting the constraints of the ATEx.
Green Oak offers light-filled workspaces that emphasise indoor-outdoor relationships on each floor and provide spaces for relaxation, meetings or informal gatherings conducive to collaborative work.
To this end, we carved out the facades and sculpted the upper volume of the building to create loggias and terraces accessible from each floor.
On the top floor, a double-height volume crowns the building and gives it a classic architectural composition. Generously glazed, panoramic, open onto two vast terraces overlooking the landscape of the city and benefiting from an exceptional ceiling height, the eighth floor is suitable for hosting a sky-lobby dedicated to the exceptional events that mark the collective life of a company: welcoming distinguished guests, parties, general assemblies, team meetings etc.
Functional spaces and user well-being have guided Mootz+Pelé and Calq design.
