Versailles house
The apartment is located in the heart of historic district in Versailles, France. It is placed on the ground floor and benefits from a garden of more than 200 m².
The project is based on the following ideas:
- Reconfigure the ground level accommodation forming spaces more connected to the garden, bringing the two environments perceptually closer together.
- Small rooms with narrow proportions are widened to create a more generous space for the everyday life of the family,
- Enlarge the openings and to allow natural light inside
- The appartement had various technical issues with its foundations, humidity, and insulation. The aim of the project was to upgrade this accommodation into today’s standards of comfort.
The kitchen and the dining room are placed in the room surrounded by the garden. The openings to the garden have been enlarged to allow the sun to penetrate the room. The experience of inhabiting this room is being inside and, in the garden, simultaneously.
The living room is placed in continuity with the kitchen and have views to the garden. Further natural light is admitted into living area by a curved skylight.
Some fragments of Murano glasses, collected by the family itself, were placed in to the in-situ concrete worktop.
