MOMP estudio
MOMP estudio was born as a place to create, live, enjoy and grow. It arises from the desire to give the space enough flexibility to accommodate all the uses and activities planned and to come. The opportunity to design its own space prompts reflection on the future, these reflections conclude in the need to not condition the space with rigid elements that do not allow it to adapt to different situations that occur over time.
·
The challenge when facing the design is given by the need to fit a versatile and flexible program within a limited space, which also expresses the concerns and personality of the studio. The objective is to generate different areas that allow to develop the present work without conditioning the possible uses that can be developed in the future. The four spaces derived from the program of needs are: work space, meeting room, office and toilet.
·
The characteristics of the surroundings are key to establish a line of work to follow. The golf course located in front of the only opening to the outside, facing west, generates a deep perspective full of color given the thick vegetation. The objective is to generate an opening that frames that view and generates a representative image that becomes part of the study.
·
The temporality and maturation of the materials have been fundamental in the composition of the space, understanding that the physical evolution of the materials is inevitable has been the axis on which the materiality is formulated.
·
Appreciating the beauty in the appearance of natural materials as they erode and age is something we are not accustomed to today and is the aspect that gives identity and value to most of the monumental works we admire. The way in which natural materials reflect the passage of time is something that allows spaces to evolve and reflect different states and moments as opposed to static and perfection.
·
A special interest arises in combining this desire to flee from perfection and the eternally lasting with the use of materials of proximity that refer to the Mediterranean vernacular architecture. The handmade clay produced in the Valencian community was chosen as the main element in the work area. The imperfections and history that each piece tells, literally unique due to its manufacture, is perfect to exemplify this fact.
·
The clay is related to the area where the creative process takes place and the work is developed. It establishes an analogy between the craftsmanship in the architectural process and that of the manufacture of the clay pieces, in which the traces of the people who worked them can be seen, in the same way that we intend to leave our mark on the projects we carry out.
·
There is a marked transition between the work space, with its imperfections, and the office and meeting room spaces. These are presented as abstract spaces in which the finish of the floor, walls and ceilings are unified through the use of continuous materials with the same tone in all of them. The only element that stands out from the canvas created by continuous materials is wood. The wood cladding relates to the service and storage spaces. The integral design of the carpentry is made by the studio, so it has been adapted as much as possible to the needs and aesthetics.
·
The layout of the space serves as a stage to collect in the center an island of natural travertine. The material is presented raw without any treatment in order to appreciate all the imperfections caused in its formation over the years. The main circulations are generated around this piece, so we have been able to verify the power of attraction for visitors to pass their hand over the piece and feel it.
