MAREA
Marea is an immersive art installation conceived for the ADE 2022.
The installation, located in the
main dancefloor of the Studio K, transports visitors and dancers in a new immersive dance experience.
The installation takes its name from the italian word for tide, ‘Marea’.
It is the alternate rising and falling of the sea, usually twice in each lunar day, at a particular place, due to the attraction of the moon and sun.
As the sea, during the ADE, thousands of visitors and music lovers flow in the city of Amsterdam, to move and dance together in one special night.
A sea of people moving together in one unique flow at the beat of the music.
The structure hanged above the dancefloor creates a sort of a rocky carpet, covering a surface of approximately 50 m2.
The structure is formed by 10 panels of metal mesh covered by thermal blankets. In order to mimic the movement typical of the tides, the metal mesh have been bend and compressed in different directions. Different thermal blankets are glued to the mesh following the curves and folds of the structure. The panels are hanged at different heights and inclinations and finally tied together to form one unique element.
A game of lasers and smoke completes the immersive installation: the laser is programmed with different intensities and patterns that hits the reflective surface of the rocky carpet, creating a game of dark and light, enphasizing the ripples of it.
