ONE-STOREY HOUSE
Housing for a family with prefabricated x-lam structure, low energy consumption and built with materials of natural origin.
The design solutions conceived for this house originate from some precise requests made by the client, who wanted a formally simple house, energy efficient and built with materials of natural origin as far as possible.
"One-storey house" is located on the edge of the spa area south of the city of Padua, within the redevelopment area of a former brick kiln, which has been decommissioned and transformed into a residential area for more than 15 years, an urban destination that is decidedly more pertinent to the qualities of the site located between the hill and the vast agricultural area between the municipalities of Teolo, Abano Terme and Torreglia.
The house has a rectangular plan and appears as a pure prism with an inclined roof with two asymmetrical pitches to define the side profile inspired by the typical shapes of many rural dwellings in the Veneto countryside.
The volume is hollowed out on the north side towards Monteortone, creating a long loggia that serves as a shelter from the weather for the entrance area and the rooms, while towards the south the large tapered portico not only serves as a shelter, but also frames and accompanies the view of the surrounding landscape.
The internal functions, all on a single level, as expressly requested by the client, are developed around the large open space of the living area, the fulcrum of the home; the equipped entrance path leads into the large hall characterised by the wooden structures left exposed and by the height that reaches 5.20 m in the ridge area, another peculiar element of this home.
The large unified space contains the daytime living areas of the house such as the stone kitchen, dining area and living room open towards the garden with a glass wall more than 9 m long guaranteeing a strong continuity between inside and outside.
The living room expands towards the relaxation area in the south-west corner of the house where the large iron fireplace is placed; the large wall and roof openings create special and changing plays of light in an environment completely projected towards the surrounding landscape.
To the west of the entrance pathway are the three bedrooms with openings in the loggia to the north; no partition wall separates the access area from the living area, only the large fitted wardrobe serves to demarcate the areas of daytime and nightlife.
To the east, the garage accessed through an iron door is lit by zenithal light and is directly connected with the laundry, creating a continuous circulation between the different spaces.
The sloping trend of the roof, visible in every room, characterises the interior space according to height, creating different rhythms of expansion and compression of volumes.
The decision to build a house with a prefabricated wooden bearing structure, x-lam type, has connoted the entire material and chromatic research of the interior spaces in relation to the sources of natural light which are also very present in the ceiling. The dwelling completely displays all the materials that compose it, emphasised and in continuous dialogue with the natural light that deeply permeates the interior space.
