Dispositivo de ocio
Dispositivo de ocio [Leisure device] arises from the desire to resignify a vacant and unused space, the consequence of a generous and unusual retreat from a house in the city of Buenos Aires.
The demolition of a pre-existing, oversized and obsolete tiled roof gave rise to a new structure that invites gathering and stimulates enjoyment. A space where landscape and architecture coexist reciprocally, incorporating different natural elements: earth, water, air and fire.
It could not be defined as a simple terrace, as it is not the top of any volume, nor does it rest on something built. Nor is it a mere semi-cover, but the shelter is its logical consequence.
From the outset, it was conceived as a series of assembled elements that form part of a whole and a system. They form a light, permeable structure that rests lightly, almost on its tiptoes.
An area of 6 x 6 metres is delimited by a parapet made up of 14 modules and an absence. There, a marine staircase allows the entrance. The pool emerges as a stony, pure and concise volume. Using the body itself as a unit of measurement, different situations of use were achieved: submerging, remaining seated or simply leaning on the edge. On the opposite side, the fires. A clay oven and a grill, which can also be used as a cooker, consolidate the side next to the party wall.
The perimeter is a fundamental element of the project: the garden. Consisting of a succession of elements that protect without obstructing the views, it manages to establish the precise distance between the interior and the edge. A fence, a planter, a railing. A screen of vegetation filters the views, as well as providing privacy and life. The vegetation appropriates the architecture, crosses the limits and overflows. A landscape that was not there, and that was carefully incorporated in order to create an oasis in the middle of the urban layout.
