Cartoucherie
The Cartoucherie neighborhood in Toulouse is extremely ambitious on architectural and environmental issues.
The project is composed of 21 different volumes, each of them pasted to another when building alignment is required, and get disconnected when, on the contrary, some transparency and porosity are expected. A play of height reinforces the variety of scales. Most of vertical connections are in open air with generous terraces to allowing entrance to the apartments.
There are two types of facades, made of luminous and clear metallic sheets, with “happy” details on it.
For the “daily rooms”, terraces and large windows, arranged in a way that each terrace is protected from sunrays by the top one. For the “nighty rooms”, smaller windows with a half-moon shape, to enable inhabitants to play with light without losing the view of the outdoors. At the heart of the island block is indeed arranged a private garden, like a peaceful area for the inhabitants to look at.
