Oblò
The use of this small apartment, located in the ligurian Riviera di Levante, is maxed out in the summer. After fifty years of unuse, the layout was not functional anymore: the changed needs of the owners were not fully satisfied.
The partition of the floorplan in small rooms did not allow a flexible use of the space. The first action foreseen by the project was to unify the space through demolition of non-load-bearing partitions. This allowed access to the apartment through a less compressed space. The second action wanted by the designers was to “look through”: a porthole aligned to the entrance door and the sea view window brings natural light at the innermost point of the house, and vice versa brings the gaze outwards. llabb team designed two parallel volumes of tailor-made carpentry: the kitchen volume and a functional wall.
The linear kitchen is minimal and symmetrical, built in open-pore varnished wood, with a natural oak niche. The functional wall, hosting a wardrobe and a bookshelf, conceals within it the access to the bedroom, a more private and hidden space of the house. The entire apartment has been unified by natural oak plank flooring.
The color palette is fresh and clear, with neutral tones reminiscent of the summer days by the seaside: white, sand, light wood, light blue and navy blue.
