Beyond
The project is the restructuring of a 19th century apartment. It is the happy articulation of old works of quality and new works.
In the house’s centre, a mirror volume makes it possible to conceal the technical spaces and to extend the spaces beyond their usual limits. The light and the views wander there creating an openness and freedom missing from the existing one. This volume is inhabited by the bathroom and develops on its limits storage and library. The serving space is optimized to free up the served space.
Above, the parental bedroom, on the mezzanine, optimizes the space and makes it possible to respond to the order: the need for a third bedroom for the young family. From the mezzanine, a large glass roof brings natural light into the formerly blind entrance. It allows the parents to keep a benevolent eye on the children's rooms.
At the back of this set, a kitchen in a row allows the almost secret passage between the family living room and the reception room. This expressive kitchen unit is a continuous thread creating the link and the opening between the different living rooms. The kitchen is moving and expressive.
The whole is technical and warm. The wooden structure is magnified. Steel networks and ventilation are assumed. The curtains and mirrors bring a distinguished dimension.
This cohabitation and this contrast between the new and the old makes it possible to enhance and highlight the old works. We tried with our intervention to stage the intrinsic qualities of the apartment, aesthetic qualities (mouldings, quality wood, cupboard, old fireplace), quality of volume (3.90m under ceiling), quality of light (East West orientation , very large bays).
