Located in the historic centre of Isola del Liri, the project is part of a context that has a strong identity linked to craftsmanship and production, given its proximity to the river and the waterfall. Hence the need to give a new identity to the space, which in turn does not forget its values and origins.
Nowadays new types of activities have settled on the site and have led to the transformation of these spaces.
The project is developed on three levels that follow the course of the public space on the ground floor, each communicating with the outside, but only one, the main entrance, faces the river.
The first room is designed as a sequence of arches, inviting the passer-by to cross it to get to the heart of the project, the wooden bar and wine cellar built by local craftsmen, through which it is possible to see the existing ancient wall that bears the traces of its historical use. The staircase has been restored and is protected by a console and a light parapet that crowns it and closes the gap behind it.
The second and third rooms are on two semi-levels, separated by four steps but visually contiguous; both open with two glass doors onto the side alley and are designed to animate an otherwise secondary space.
The third room houses the kitchen and sanitary block, behind a wood-panelled partition integrating the two doors in a geometric design.
For this project we wanted to give value to participation, carefully choosing materials and workers from the local area. The integrated furniture and the tables and chairs were designed specifically for the project and were made within a 5 km radius of the project site.
