Twofold Reflection
Like so many other archetypal small Flemish villages, Watou’s beating heart is its
village square. Yet over time, ‘Watouplein’ was taken over by parking spaces and local bars and restaurants.
During the festival, Selvatico Collective takes over a parking space with a cube-shaped object they call "pensatoio". A place without obligations, where everything is allowed. This pensatoio brings back the excitement of the unpredictable, which used to draw the locals to the village square.
With this short-term intervention, Selvatico wants to achieve a long-term effect, and return the heartbeat to this border town, even if only for a limited time.
Selvatico is a group of artists, designers, and activists from Amsterdam. They express themselves in architecture, spatial design and visual arts. Selvatico devises local solutions to global problems.
