Forest Hall
An entry door of the Mormal forest
The hall is situated at the hedge of the pond of the Pâture d’Haisne, at the heart of the Mormal forest. Located at the entrance of the Locquignol village (Avesnois), this reception center for the tourists and visitors bases its intention on the culture and the history of the medieval forest.
The vast pasturage is used for various activities, such as horse riding, walking or educational outings.
Implanted in the alignment of the path crossing the pasturage, the hall rises, twists and embraces the landscape in just one gesture, signalizing a pasture made invisible by the forest and hilly landscape that it however wants to reveal.
A hall as a shelter
The construction provides the creation of a covered hall whose main function will be to serve as shelter for all users of the pasturage.
The structural rhythm takes along the visitor from the car park and opens onto the distant landscape of the pond and the forest, through a deformation of the triangular gantries.
The shingle
The hall is made of rather audacious works.
Thus, the posts exposed to bad weather are made of solid larch, rough sawn. Blond and pink essence when sawn, adapted to this use, this wood gradually grays and takes on a gray and pink patina. Installed on screw piles, they are detached from the slab by strapping.
The primary framework, in spruce, protected from wetting by adapted banks, swings and adapts to the triangulations. Support for a planking in Landes pine, the cover reveals a split chestnut shingle, placed with a brass nail.
This exceptional material, expressive and durable, acquires a patina and is visible on the wall which is in the continuity of the roof.
