Coronado House
The architectural program was perfectly adapted to the site, despite the pre existing disadvantages of the property and its surroundings.
The project sought ventilation, lighting and unique natural perspectives from the very beginning of the project. In addition, the proposal was empowered by separating the elements, as though opening the core of the residence into sections and bestowing each free area with a perceptive and bioclimatic raison d’être.
This procedure also influenced its character, erasing the qualities of “conventional” housing, to form simple cubes joined only by vaulted corridors as transitional elements.
The passive bioclimatic strategies were elementary from the construction; with reinforced walls of soil extracted from the site itself, compacted in layers that are 4” and 15” cm thick. Simultaneously and in other modules, 8” thick woven brick walls and brick vault roofs that feature insulating filler for leveling and compression were erected.
By having a free surface area that was larger than the built area, the landscaping project was developed in parallel with the housing. The resulting winding paths between endemic jungles provide access to the recreation area (pool and terrace) and arrange a concrete parameter.
