ENRIC GRANADOS APARTMENT
reawaken the modernist tile
This project presents the reform of a house located in the Eixample district of Barcelona. The apartment is an elongated floor with two facades: the main one on Enric Granados street and the opposite to an interior patio. The apartment had undergone several renovations that had seriously affected the original elements of the apartment.
The project revolves around the idea of reawakening the modernist space from a contemporary point of view.
Modernist tiling
The most important decision was to design a new flooring for the whole apartment with the traditional hydraulic tile, which today is still made manually one by one. Each room has a unique design, as it was originally done, but using the same colors to unify the design.
The baseboards and moldings are also redone following the same laws as in 1900.
Carpentry
The interior and balcony doors where preserved and restored: moldings, handles and even the frosted upper glass. In the bathrooms, two completely opposite doors are introduced: metallic, with straight and light lines. The same proportion is used as the old carpentry to create a contrast and in this way to enhance both designs.
Distribution
The original distribution has been respected, except for the rooms next to the main facades where the interior partitions have been demolished to obtain large spaces that accumulate natural light for the inner rooms. In one of these spaces the kitchen is located, with very minimalist lines and materials so that the space opts for contemporary but with the ever-present modernist reminiscence.
