122 . MIRROR FLAT
The intervention consists in perpetuating the intrinsic qualities to this type of dwelling, revealing the work of the silversmith around the ornaments of the fireplace, parquet floors and partitions.
The new configuration, which transforms the old kitchen into a bedroom, requires the removal of one of the original partitions. It closed the main room and turned over the woodwork on the walls around the fireplace.
Wishing to keep this logic of global space, and avoiding falling into a form of imitation, we decided to build the new partition in five mirrored elements from top to bottom, duplicating the space and projecting it to infinity through the double reflection in the mirror crowning the fireplace.
These panels, sometimes fixed, sometimes open, hide access to the new spaces of the kitchen and the bedroom. One of the old back doors is preserved and serves to close the smallest room in the apartment.
The oak parquet is dismantled and restored in its entirety. It comes to die against the mirrored facade in a play of bounces of the chevron pattern.
On the other side, a more abstract and darker floor highlights the bedroom and the various utility rooms.
Here, granite is used for wet areas, both horizontally and vertically, as an envelope that makes them disappear.
