APPARTEMENT CAVENDISH
This duplex apartment is located in a very classic building from the sixties, with an East-West orientation. The structure of the building is cast-in-place concrete. The project breaks down the upper and lower floors of the duplex into two distinct worlds, opposed in their plan logic. The 7th floor hosts private rooms and the 8th floor common rooms. The 7th floor is an altered enfilade while the 8th is a free plan, organized around objects, existing or created.
The enfilade is dedicated to the sunrise from the east and the sunset from the west. The successive planes work as in the painter Albers' series "Homage to the Square", matching their hues to bring out the pinkish light in the morning and the orange light in the evening. The glossy black parquet helps to bring out.
Each of these successive planes are made of a panel rolling on a rail on the ground; the simple translation of one of these modifies the entire circulation of the apartment and suddenly complexifies its organization and perception, opening up secondary circulation, multiplying points of view and uses. Even if the space is not bigger, it's apprehension is stretched on the principle of Russian dolls. The weight of the doors is evaluated to participate in this feeling of stretching through their handling. Parquet on joist is nailed on the periphery, so that it only creaks when using secondary circulation.
The bedroom wall reveals a double height shower concealed behind the stairs, while the extra bedroom opens up a view of the park from the bathtub and that of the entrance offers a dressing room to visitors by hiding the bedrooms if necessary.
