The Street, the Lobby, and the Theatre.
How is the transitional area between the Street and the Theatre?
We have worked to redefine how this space belongs to no one but everyone at the same time: a space that welcomes and at the same time dismisses the audience member, creating an emotional atmosphere that excites and generates a strong state of mind.
We had two challenges to address. Firstly, to bring the theatrical experience to the street. The emotionally stirring boldness of red peeks out into the street and beckons the audience member to the stalls. We have bathed the entire lobby in red, a big red blanket that reaches out from the stage, from its curtains, its seats, and its carpets that jumps up from the lobby and reaches the street. Secondly, to prepare the audience member for the unique experience that is the theatre.
When you enter the lobby, a dark ceiling and red walls surround us from the first moment and, in the background, a large mouth formed by red steel sheets shows us the different entrances to the room, highlighted in this case by vertical lights designed by our studio for this space. We have reduced any extraneous light with targeted technical lighting, capable of adapting to different situations while other potentially distracting noise and reverberations from within are reduced thanks to the red sound-absorbing panels that act as drop curtains.
Today, with this design, we have transformed the lobby into a multi-functional polyvalent space: a meeting place, a place for debate, where press conferences, presentations and exhibitions can be held and where audience members can be excited and inspired to be at the theatre, regardless of their purpose.
