The City Hof was built in 1958 according to the plans of the Architect Rudolf Klophaus along the street Klosterwall in Hamburg. The City Hof is a typical building of International Post War Modernism. The City Hof stands adjacent to the historic Kontorhausviertel with prominent buildings such as Chile House and Sprinkenhof.
In a long controversy if this prominent building should be torn down or converted, the City of Hamburg decided to tear it down and build a large dense brick block. Although GMP Architects (Gerkan Marg and Partners) made a prominent plan for converting the City Hof into Student Appartments, the City Hof is being torn down in 2019.
