CDM Apartment Building
This 20th century building is located in the Barcelona Neighborhood of Poble Sec. It served as a multy-generational house that transformed over the last century from a shop with a living area to a house with different departments for different parts of the family. As a result, its interior layout did not reflect any recognizable typology.
The architectural intervention was structural and transversal – with reinforcements and alteration from a structural point of view, interior layout, new installation systems and improvements the construction details
The main façade, stairwell and entrance hall were restored, emphasizing some of the building original elements such as balustrades, plaster molding and stuccos. A new patio was opened in the middle of the building in order to introduce natural light and ventilation to its center, producing four apartments, two on each floor. All the apartments responds to the same spatial order with one bedroom facing the façade and the other to the interior patio. The building’s entire envelope was insulated and new wooden windows with double glazing were introduced in all the apartments in order to enhance its energy performance significantly.
All in all, this 20th century building was given a new life as a modern apartment building in the city and has completed its transformation into the 21th century.
