Die Neue Sammlung. X-D-E-P-O-T
The Neue Sammlung in Munich will open a new publicly accessible display storeroom. The X-D-E-P-O-T.
Measuring approximately 600 m², the space earmarked for this purpose already existed on the second basement level in the west wing of the Pinakothek der Moderne, with direct access to its exhibition rooms. X-D-E-P-O-T was transformed and designed by Kuehn Malvezzi, a Berlin-based architecture studio with great experience in the field of museum and exhibition design. It will enable the Design Museum to present its holdings more extensively and in a very unique and original way.
Like sequences of images on a storyboard, objects will be placed in configurations to visualize a variety of themes. The visitor consequently not only gains an insight into the history of the collection of the oldest design museum in the world, but also into the topical issues of modern and contemporary design. In X-D-E-P-O-T, the objects exhibited and presented will tell a different story, one of diversity, of the contemporaneity of the uncontemporary, of the progression of an idea and its realization.
